Our mission statement declares “Gathered by God’s grace, we are empowered to serve and sent to share Christ’s love”. We live this out in a variety of service and outreach opportunities–some of which happen every year, and have happened for a long time, and some of which are one-time responses to specific needs. Checking out the “Good News” publications is a great way to learn more about the work God is doing in and through our congregation, as following us on Facebook “Zion’s Lutheran” or signing up for our weekly eblast.

Zion’s Touching Tomorrow Endowment Applications Now Open

Zion’s Touching Tomorrow Endowment has over $20,000 to distribute this year! Grants from the Endowment support mission and outreach beyond the normal church budget and usually, beyond the church walls.  Money is awarded in the categories of education, local ministries, congregational programs, and extended/global ministries. We need your help in providing applications for review!!

Zion’s shares God’s gifts

During the season of Lent, Zion’s set out to complete 40 Actions Teams in 40 Days. In the end, we completed 32, which means that $8,000 and many hours of hard work were offered in love to our local and global community. Click the photo below for a snapshot of what that mission looked like:

APRIL 29: Bike or Hike to the Bordner Cabin

Bike OR Hike to support the Bordner Cabin Preservation: Saturday, April 29 at NOON at the cabin. This is a #Zions40in40 event.

The plan is to bike or hike from the (1.6 miles) Sand Siding trailhead near Twin Grove Park. The Swatara Watershed and Bordner Cabin websites offer maps and information of interest. Upon arrival we will ‘police’ the area of litter and trash that may have accumulated, and listen to a Bordner Cabin Preservation representative’s description of the Preservation’s history and mission. After the cabin effort we will reconvene at Wendy’s in Lickdale where Thrivent Action dollars will treat us to lunch.
Those choosing to bike or hike will meet at the Zion’s parking lot at 11:00 A M for those wishing to ride share, or meet us at the Sand Siding trailhead at 11:30 AM. Anyone wishing to donate to the Preservation Fund in a financial way are encouraged to consider one penny ($0.01) per pedal stroke or step for hikers or approximately $10. Donations are NOT required to participate.
A signup sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the Gathering Area and any other logistical questions should be directed to Ed Ludwig at 717-507-4758.
